In the Hindu religion, some trees are considered to be very sacred. Hindus worship these trees occasionally. The leaves, flowers, and fruits of these trees are used in Hindu rituals. Let’s check out some of the most sacred trees.

Banana tree:

A banana tree is considered to be a very sacred tree in the Hindu religion. It represents Lord Vishnu and is mostly worshipped on Thursday. The banana tree is associated with planet Jupiter. One can get the blessings of Jupiter by worshipping the tree. Hindu believes that worshipping banana tree brings good fortune, wealth and happy married life. Worshipping banana tree brings blessings of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. The fruit, flower, and leaves of the banana trees are very sacred and holy as per Hindu traditions. On every holy occasion of the Hindu religion, banana leaves and fruits are used. In Hindu rituals, banana leaves are used as plates for serving food.

 

Peepal tree (Ficus religiosa):

The peepal tree is another sacred tree. It represents the trinity of God Brahma, God Vishnu, and God Shiva. It is also associated with the God Krishna. It is believed that the roots of the tree represent Lord Brahma, the trunk represents Vishnu and the leaves are Shiva. Watering, lighting, chanting under the tree and circling the tree bring good luck, wealth, and safety. According to astrology, worshipping this tree gives freedom from the problems of Saturn planet. God Buddha has attained the enlightenment of knowledge under the tree. This tree releases a great amount of oxygen in the atmosphere and kills the bacterias presented in the air. Cutting or removing this tree is not good.

 

Banyan tree:

It is an ancient tree in the Hindu religion. Hindi names of this tree are Vat and Bargad. It is also called Kalpavriksh that means the tree which fulfills all desires. This tree is spread in a large area and has long branches and aerial roots. This tree is god’s shelter for his devotees. Hindu woman worships this tree for the long life and wellness of her husband. They do Vat-Savitri puja for this. They tie the thread to the tree and circulate through the tree. This tree gives the blessings of ancestors also. It is a long live tree and can survive for a long time. The Banyan tree is the national tree of India. It is also known as the Indian fig tree.

 

Tulsi (Holy Basil):

Tulsi is the most sacred plant in the Hindu religion. It is an incarnation of goddess Lakshmi and the consort of God Vishnu. Tulsi was Vrinda, the wife of demon Jalandhar. Jalandhar was unbeatable by the gods. So gods made a plan to kill him through his wife. They prayed to God Vishnu. He got the form of Jalandhar and appeared in front of Vrinda. Vrinda cursed god Vishnu to become a stone. God Vishnu apologized and accepted Vrinda as his wife in the form of a Tulsi tree. God Vishnu gave a boon to Vrinda that his worship is incomplete without her. Kartik month in the Hindu calendar is the month of Tulsi. Tulsi marriage is done every year on the eleventh bright day of Kartik. Tulsi has medical properties also. It is a good anti-oxidant and anti-bacterial plant. It is a medicine for cold, cough, viral infections, and stomach problems.

 

Mango tree:

This tree is also important in the Hindu religion. Its leaves, woods, and fruits are used in Hindu rituals. Toran made of mango leaves is used to decorate gates in Hindu households. Mango leaves are put on the Kalash in Hindu rituals. Mango woods are used in hawan, fire ceremonies.

 

Neem (Azadirachta Indica):

This tree is associated with the goddess Durga. It is an abode of the goddess. This tree is worshipped in the rituals of the goddess. It is an anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal tree. It has too many medical properties also. The air passing through this tree is very beneficial for health. Burning neem leaves removes negative energy.

Amla (Phyllanthus Emblica):

This tree is associated with the god Vishnu. Amalaki Ekadashi and amla Navami are the festivals of amla tree. Amalaki Ekadashi is the eleventh bright day of Falgun month of the Hindu calendar and Amla Navami is the ninth bright day of Kartik month. Worshipping the Amla tree brings good luck, health, wealth, and blessings of the god Vishnu and goddess Lakshmi. Amla tree has good medical properties also. Its fruit is a great source of Vitamin C. Amla is also used for curing hair problems. In Ayurveda, Amla is described as a very beneficial fruit for strong immunity.

 

Coconut tree:

the coconut tree is important for its fruit. Coconut is called Shriphala in Hindi that means god’s fruit. It is a very sacred, pure, and healthy fruit. Coconut is always used in Hindu rituals. It is very pure because it is not grown from the thrown seeds eaten and touched by humans. Hindus break the coconut and offer it to the god. Coconut is also used to put on the top of the Kalash. Apart from a religious view, coconut oil is very good for hair. Coconut water is a good natural drink.

 

Bael (Aegle Marmelos):

Bael tree is associated with the god Shiva. Bael leaves are used in the worship of God Shiva. Because of its cooling properties, Bael leaves are offered to hot-tempered gods. A bael leaf is a symbol of the trinity god Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh. Bael fruit is also good for the stomach and digestion.
