Goddess Saraswati (देवी सरस्वती)

She is represented by a very beautiful fair looking woman with four arms, wearing white saree and seated on a white lotus which shows purity. In one arm she carrys the holy book, in other arm she has a crystal garland and the remaining two arms are holding’ veena ‘the musical instrument.

White swan and peacock are the vehicles of goddess Saraswati.

In hindu religion, vasant Panchami, the fifth day of the spring season in the Magha month is the festival of goddess Saraswati. Hindu followers worship pens, books and musical instruments on that day. This is very good day to start writing and learning of the children.

According to hindu mythology, when lord Brahma created the universe, he realized there is the lack of concept and things are unformed and meaningless. So Brahma decided to create the source of knowledge. Then from his mouth goddess Saraswati emerged. She is the goddess of knowledge and wisdom. She helped Brahma in his task and began to give him direction in words.

Goddess Saraswati wears neither too much jewellery and colourful dresses which shows her sacrifice and rejection to the materials things. Her white sari reflects the purity and true knowledge. She is also associated with yellow colour which reflects energy. Goddess Saraswti is celebrated as a feminine power with purity and truth.

In hindu religion, Saraswati is a river also as well as a goddess. Goddess Saraswati is the goddess of not only academic knowledge but also of divine knowledge which is essential to achieve moksha.
